Pure organic wool, in soft, silky, worsted-spun skeins, from our curly-fleeced flock of white and naturally coloured sheep. They are dominated by the characterful Wensleydale, a rare breed of British sheep, prized for producing the finest fleece of all native breeds. The distinctive lustre and kemp-free nature of the wool is shown to best effect in worsted-spun yarns and in the range of distinctive greys available from blending the naturally coloured fleeces:
• pearl (natural, lustrous sheep white!)
• graphite (not pictured, but somewhere between silver and charcoal)
The yarn is certified organic: meeting the highest farm animal welfare standards and most environmentally sensitive systems of wool processing.
Handle and use: a soft, silken, worsted spun yarn 'with drape' that is suitable for knitwear, crochetwear (is that a word?) and weaving. It felts beautifully too.
Tension: as a guide, we use 4mm / US needles to give a 4 inch/10 cm square of 22 stitches by 28 rows.
Quantities: available in skeins of 50g / 120y / 110m. It is also available in 500g amounts, on the cone at a discount of 15%. (Wool on the cone is lightly oiled, from the spinning process, and will wash off when you block your finished piece.)
Care: hand wash by soaking in warm water with a gentle detergent, agitate as little as possible, rinse in cool water, squeeze and allow to drip until damp, then reshape and leave to air dry flat.
